Smoky Hill Art Exhibition

The "call for entries" for the 2023 Smoky Hill Art Competition is now underway. Open to all Kansas artists, the Smoky Hill deadline is March 15 and the exhibition will open April 29 as the anchor of the Spring Art Walk.  For competition details and fillable entry form, follow the link below.

Five State Photography Exhibition

This annual exhibition results from a competition open to photographers in Kansas, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Missouri & Colorado. This year, 549 photographs were submitted, with 150 selected for exhibition.  Follow the link for images & info.

Creative Writing Contest

The 2023 Creative Writing Competition in Prose & Poetry is now underway. This annual contest in prose & poetry is open to any Ellis County student in kindergarten through 12th grade. Follow the link for information on this year's project as well as the 2022 book of winning entries, scenes from the ceremony & reception, & project information.

FAmous Figures Project

Open to 5th grade students in Ellis County public & private schools, this "living history" project promotes the use of research skills, awareness of, and appreciation for, the positive role models, thinking and writing in a creative manner, and developing acting and public speaking skills.  Follow the link for complete project information.

The 1976 Swiss documentary on Hays, Kansas is now available for viewing, as is the 2015 sequel produced by one of the original filmmakers
