The Smoky Hill Art Exhibition was curated from an annual competition open to any Kansas artist. This year's juror was Stephen Gleissner who selected the 60 exhibited works from the 237 submitted, assigned the cash awards during his on-site visit following the exhibition's installation.
Open to 5th grade students in Ellis County public & private schools, this "living history" project promotes the use of research skills, awareness of, and appreciation for, the positive role models, thinking and writing in a creative manner, and developing acting and public speaking skills. This annual exhibition results from a competition open to photographers in Kansas, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Missouri & Colorado. This year, 549 photographs were submitted, with 150 selected for exhibition. Follow the link for images & info.
The 2023 Creative Writing Competition in Prose & Poetry is now underway. This annual contest in prose & poetry is open to any Ellis County student in kindergarten through 12th grade.
