Join us for the Hays Arts Council 2024 Summer Art Walk on Friday, June 21 from 6:30-9:30pm. There will be 14 locations featuring 21 visual & performing arts features. (link below for complete list). Anchoring the Art Walk is the opening reception of the HAC summer exhibition "Loosely Speaking," which will feature the work of eleven local and regional artists.
We've got a great summer ahead with some exciting & engaging classes and workshops for young people. . . classes in acting & theatre, painting, abstract and nature inspired art, diverse arts & crafts projects, and new this year - guitar lessons! The Smoky Hill Art Exhibition is an annual statewide juried art competition open to Kansas artists. This year, 299 submissions were received, with 61 works selected by juror Mike Michaelis of Wichita, who also assigned $3,000 in cash awards. The exhibition opened as the anchor of the Spring Art Walk and will run through June 7.

This 40th Annual Five State Exhibition was curated from a competition open to photographers in Kansas, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Missouri & Colorado. This year, 671 photographs were submitted, with 160 selected for exhibition by Juror Charlie Riedel, Associated Press photographer.

Open to 5th grade students in Ellis County public & private schools, this "living history" project promotes the use of research skills, awareness of, and appreciation for, the positive role models, thinking and writing in a creative manner, and developing acting and public speaking skills. Ellis County students in Kindergarten through 12th grade, through their teachers or independently, are invited to submit prose & poetry works to this annual competition. The FHSU English Department serves as the judging panel and an award ceremony is held in late spring. Follow the link below for 2024 project info & winning entries of the past 2 years.
